Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a renowned red wine that's made more refreshing and drinkable by reducing the maceration time and exclusively using steel tanks. It's robust, but don't confuse 'robust' with 'rude'—the latter has a deeper meaning. In the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, before Italy's unification, people spoke Neapolitan, and 'rude' comes from the phrase 'CA' FUNE,' meaning 'with the rope.' When people began moving from the countryside to cities, farmers with large families, worried about losing their children in the bustling streets and squares, would sometimes tie them with a rope like a leash. The city dwellers, seeing this practice, mocked them and said, 'Here come the CA' FUNE (the ones with the rope).' That's where the term 'CAFONE' comes from. This wine pays homage to those origins.
